Like Riverton, Saddleworth was laid out by James Masters, but Saddleworth predates Riverton by a few years, having been laid out in 1853. Masters was born at Saddleworth in Lancashire. The town today has a population of nearly 400. It is fairly unusual in this region for having a Baptist Church. The Lutheran Church was built in 1926 but in the Victorian style so it has been included.
