Hotel, Renmark, Riverland, South Australia
At first sight one would think that this is a genuine Art Deco 1930's hotel. In reality it began as a single storey colonial structure in 1893. In 1902 it was extended with an upper storey in the Federation style. In 1937 it was refurbished and given its Art Deco appearance. It has been a community hotel since 1897 ie the community owns it, runs it and benefits from the profits. It was the first such hotel in the British Empire.
