Hallett is a small service centre on the main road between Burra and Peterborough in the Mid North. It was established in 1842 by the same John Hallett who discovered the geological formations at Hallett Cove. Sir Hubert Wilkins, pioneer aviator and polar explorer, was born nearby. The area is home to some fine marino studs and in recent years has seen the construction of a number of wind farms due to its topography.
