Echunga was laid out by Joseph Hagen in 1849. Today it is a small pleasant unhurried town which serves the local farming community as well as travellers and tourists. The road through Echunga is an alternative route from Adelaide to the south coast, and by far the most scenic in my view. However the price of that is time, which too few people seem willing to pay these days.
